Jihyun Lee

Building 2  Floor 1  Studio P

She has been focusing on painting with rigorous rearrangement of surrealistic spaces. Over two decades, she has predominantly explored paintings and drawings intending to maximize the inevitable state of in-between reverie and reality. Lee's work has continuously existed within the ambivalent threshold where one is weaving in and out of her never-ending daydreams and authentic experiences in life. When viewing her paintings, one’s eyes cannot remain still but inevitably need to zoom in and out and focus on the multitude of ideas and thoughts that naturally enter the creator's mind. Similarly, drawings, perhaps on a more personal level, show the constant desire to drench herself with never-ending reveries and their counterpart, reality. She often puts small sizes of canvases next to the ones she is working on, usually large-scale ones. Small pieces of work, named "Fantasma Series," are a visual diary generated from the branch of thoughts at a given time.
