New Haven Aikikai

Building 5  Floor 1  Studio A & B

This year for Open Studios 2023 we’re planning an interactive Japanese craft festival and martial arts demo at the dojo on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 1-4 pm. People can come in and try out crafts like origami, calligraphy, ink painting and fish printing and also view demos of Aikido, Iaido, Kendo and more.

New Haven Aikikai - Fire Horse Dojo is a welcoming and energetic Aikido dojo. Our lineage is in the Aikikai style although we welcome Aikidoka of all backgrounds. We also offer classes in Aikido, Aikido weapons, Iaido, the art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword, and Zazen, or seated Zen meditation. We also sustain a diverse and progressive community.

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that is practiced worldwide by people of all ages. Its roots are in Japanese jujitsu, kendo and sword arts, with influence from Zen. The "do" in its name means Aikido is a martial path, practiced with a goal of self-transformation.
